CITI Youth Coach
The CITI Youth program introduces local high school students to GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology and how it can be used as a tool for community decision-making. Participating students can apply for paid internships as Map Technicians at their local community board.
The CITI Youth Coach is a mentor to high school students during their internships with their local community board.
Responsibilities include:
· Make reminder calls to students and/or community board staff prior to monthly meetings.
· Accompany students to meetings and provide assistance with equipment setup, and overall implementation of having maps at meetings.
· Assist students with resume writing and professional development.
· Encourage students to think critically about the urban planning and community development issues facing their neighborhood.
· Attend monthly professional development workshops with students.
· Take initiative to identify ways to ensure all students have a positive internship experience.
· Willingness to travel throughout the 5 boroughs. The majority of work hours will be between 5 and 9 pm, approximately three to four evenings per week.
· Background in education, social work, urban planning, or related field.
· Familiarity with NYC community boards and NYC planning/development issues is preferred.
· Comfort with setting up laptops, projectors and internet connections (training provided if necessary).
· Very well organized and responsible.
