JOB OPPORTUNITY
DISTRICT MANAGER
POSITION: The District Manager maintains the district office and provides administrative support to the Board and its committees. The District Manager assists the Board in creating venues for public engagement, planning and advocacy. The District Manager works closely with elected officials, governmental agencies, local residents, businesses and service providers to address community needs and service requests. The District Manager supervises all staff, administers the office budget and carries forward the agenda as dictated by the Board Chair and its members. The District Manager reports to the Board Chair. Since many of the Board's meetings are held in the evening, the position requires flexible working hours, including evening work.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Represents the Board in monitoring and evaluating the delivery of municipal services within the community district and actively participates in the coordination of delivery of these services;
• Serves as a conduit between residents of the district, members of the Board and district personnel providing municipal services;
• Chairs monthly District Service Cabinet meeting composed of agencies providing municipal services. Establishes the agenda and represents the interests of the community and Board in dealing with the managers or district supervisors representing their respective departments;
• Assists the Board Chair in organizing monthly meetings of the Board and its committees;
• Supervises and assures the production of Board related meeting and hearing minutes;
• Participates in all monthly Board meetings;
• Participates in committee meetings as needed;
• Represents the Board as needed at public meetings and hearings;
• Monitors community problems and conditions, address citizen complaints, and prepares monthly report to Board on complaints, resolutions and other relevant activities;
• Participates in the formulation and development of Board policies and procedures. Execute those policies and procedures as necessary;
• Supervises Board office staff;
• Maintains communication among Board members, community members and others using postal mailings and e-mail;
• Works with appropriate agency to set-up and manage a Board four web site;
• Directs the office filing and archiving system in support of the Board and its committees;
• And other duties as required by the Board and other agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree and two years of managerial experience in community work, public administration or planning or related fields; an associate’s degree from an accredited college and four years of relevant experience is also acceptable, while candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent are also encouraged to apply if they have six years of relevant experience; excellent communication, managerial, and organizational skills; experience managing budgets desirable; professional experience in urban planning and/or other urban disciplines helpful; proficiency in MS office applications essential, other computer skills desirable. The District Manager must be a NYC resident.
