Deputy Public Advocate for Ombudsman Services
The Office of the Public Advocate for the City of New York
The Office of the Public Advocate for the City of New York seeks a Deputy Public Advocate for Ombudsman Services. This individual would be responsible to directing a 15 member unit that handles approximately 1000 government service-related constituent complaints per month.
Experience:
Individuals applying for this position must have: knowledge of the workings of city government agencies; prior experience working with a constituent/customer service center; excellent verbal and written communication skills; analytical skills; understanding of various public policies, especially those that affect lower-income New Yorkers; be highly organized and detail oriented; supervisory experience.
Job responsibilities include:
Manage staff of 15;
Monitor staff productivity to insure that the office responds to problems reported in a timely and effective manner and provide analysis and annual statistical summary of complaints and resolutions;
Establish and maintain regular contact with city agency staff to keep abreast of changes in service delivery and agency programs;
Provide service training through regular staff meetings and with individual staff, identify training opportunities with city agencies, not-for-profits and other organizations to further staff development and understanding of key issues affecting constituents;
Review complaints on regular basis to identify issues of a recurring and citywide nature relating to services and programs; advise other departments of problems and recommend solutions;
Represent the office at public events, including occasional public speaking engagements.
